About Project

The aim of the project is to explain designer responsibility by illuminating the key role of adaptivity. In my opinion it is of great importance to draw attention to how our artefacts shape and evoke our everyday culture.
Nexus lounge chair is representing the adaptation design method dedicated to a culturally relevant buliding. My inspiration was the House of Hungarian Music (designer: Sou Fujimoto), which gave me framework for the study of the interaction between space, furniture and people. The concept of the building represents the relationship between the constructed environment and nature, and with the chair I designed, I intend to create a link between these two sides for the user.
In addition to reflecting on the context, I also wanted to draw attention to the problem of people’s rushing lives. Therefore, the chair also symbolizes “connection”. I want to encourage people to connect with themselves, each other and their environment. The goal was to create a relaxed atmosphere where they could delve into the beauty of the environment, get closer to nature, or create more social interactions by rotating several chairs according to their needs. The ergonomic design helps for each user and needs. It provides a solution for a soothing medium for body and soul at the same time, where we can recharge.

The chair would be made by plywood fabrication and bending. This is a much more environmentally conscious choice than creating it from solid wood, as it will be much less waste and also more cost-efficient. The main innovation in the chair is that the backrest would be created with 3d veneer production. On the other hand, for the reflection on nature, I needed spectacularly veined, flexible and „easy to process” wood. Thus, the end result is an innovative design in terms of vision, purpose, design method and production.

  The aim of Nexus lounge chair is to represent the importance of adaptation in design. It symbolizes the interaction between space, furniture and people, in short, the connection. It also draws attention to the problem of people’s rushing lives, so with the lounge chair I want to motivate the user to slow down and relax, to encourage people to connect with themselves, each other and their environment.
