Cenote
About Project
Cenote is a compact and elegant desktop air purifier. I wanted to re-imagine
and innovate the dish that people often place their plants on. It features a
cast concrete top and a sleek walnut bottom. Cenotes design is very neutral
and can fit in any workspace. Its air intake is hidden discretely along the
parting between concrete and wood. The large hole on the top of the product is the purifiers output.
The appearance of Cenote is inspired by underwater
sinkholes. The curious sloping hole on the top of the
product creates a very interesting visual experience. Inside
the output hole of Cenote there is a small separation
between concrete and wood, This slit is where the purified
air comes out from and is inspired by cracks in cave walls
where a breeze seems to come from.
The plate feature on the top of Cenote is inspired by
bonsai dishes. Plants are often placed on dishes to
catch any excess water from the plant. I saw this as an
opportunity to innovate this space.
The base is made from walnut, this texture creates a
pleasing contrast to the concrete upper.
