About Project

Cascade is a reading light made to fit double beds (primarily targeted towards hotels). The sleek minimal design offers a bright downlight for reading while giving the room a soft glow through the diffuser, ideal for reading a book or doing some work in bed. The reason for its existence: most double beds get a light on either side of the bed, pulling the occupants to the edge of the bed to read/work. A centered reading light doesn’t only look sleeker, it also makes both occupants more intimate.

Cascade was developed with a minimal interface to keep its sleek exterior. Both light sources are switched on and off by just opening and closing the diffuser section, allowing the light to escape the fixture. When the diffuser sits flush with the base, the light will automatically turn off on the inside so no energy is wasted. On the bottom there is a dial to control the intensity of the light and a button to activate the little night light in the middle. This nightlight provides just that extra bit of light to not bump your toes at night.

Cascade was developed with high quality materials. The base and side panels are fabricated out of aluminum extrusions and powder coated (this coating can be adapted to fit the hotel’s theme) for a long lifetime. The diffuser is made out of HTO PETG, a milky semi transparent plastic which allows a glow but doesn’t cast harsh shadows. Cascade uses 4 small (standard) spotlights aimed down to provide ample power. Finally the fixture can be attached to a junction box or attached directly to the drywall and powered by conduit. Cascade is easily installed and serviceable by an electrician. All major parts of the fixture are recyclable.
