BEND coffee table

A continuous pleated line defines the shape and functions of the coffee table.

The table is made of two parts of pleated aluminium sheet that fit together (dismountable for transport) to create one-piece.

Between the two aluminium parts are wooden supports for invisible assembly and the table’s strength. The design also lends itself to being made in pleated plywood.

Now aluminium was chosen because no folding moulds are needed it’s easily recyclable with limited energy use. The lacquering of the aluminium sheet is done using a more environmentally friendly process in which the spray is largely recovered during spraying.

The pleated legs not only act as support but also offer the possibility of storing items such as magazines, newspapers, plaids…etc. Unfolding the top creates visual tension and provides an additional storage option.

When folding the shape, openings are created that provide see-through, transparency and a certain visual lightness, to the table.

The table has a pronounced sculptural shape so that the piece of furniture can both stand on its own and interact with its surroundings.

Material: Aluminium or pleated plywood.
