Globular Series

The Globular series draws influence from a number of scientific concepts, both on the micro and macro scales. The key element is the spherical unit, which is connected organically to the adjacent sphere in a generative fashion. Emerging from this patterns are some shapes that appeal to me as a designer and physician by training.

This collection spans across various design categories of jewelry, furniture, lighting, with ease of production.

Globular Chair is the first of these functional sculptures, I wanted to make a chair out of spheres that embraces the classic ball and stick model in chemistry. The Ångstrom ring gets its name from the scientific unit used to measure distances between atomic bonds. The geometry of the ring is inspired by electron density models used in chemistry.

The Globular Spines (Spine Lamp, Dorsal and Ventral Spine Sconces) are based on the recurring patterns seen in the vertebral column, serving as abstractions of human anatomy. The Spine Lamp features a slight curvature to match that of a human vertebral column. The LED column in the center carries the electricity and light, just as the human spine serves as the carrier of electrical impulses.

The Dorsal and Ventral (anatomical terms for back and front) Spine Sconces are abbreviated forms of the spine table lamps. These are copper electroformed 3D prints, which allow the designer to choose from the broad color palette of copper patinas, while keeping the wall fixture lightweight.
