If You Have It…

“If You Have It…” is a celebration of that which is usually taken for granted.  Instead of being covered with padding and upholstery, “If You Have It…” flaunts its unglamorous plywood joinery, elastic webbing, and assembly screws, highlighting the often-underappreciated craftsmanship that goes into what is perhaps the most important part of any piece of furniture: the inner structure.

The use of corrugated polycarbonate panels (a similarly underappreciated material) for the exterior cladding highlights the negative space in the plywood structure while still giving “If You Have It…” a well-defined silhouette.  Furthermore, the panels distort the view of what’s behind them, creating visual intrigue.  The result is a play of light that showcases the unique characteristics of all its component materials.
