CORE

The Core chair is the outcome of a project where I reimagine furniture pieces tailored to the Rick Owens boutique in NYC. In this project, I have drawn inspiration from the interior design language of the store – shapes, textures, and the architecture, and extracted the essence of Rick Owens’ clothing line to create cohesive designs of the chair. To blend into the unique aura of “Rick Owens brutalism”, the Core chair prioritizes the ethos of design through rawness. The geometric shapes of the chair are designed to evoke a monumental semblance. The body structure of the core is constructed with plywood and solid pine to save weight, while the main body panels are covered with cement and clear coat as the raw texture. The steel tubes flow through the main body of the chair to serve as armrests, and they complete the contour of the geometry to address rigidity.
