Social Hub Art Walls

Endless Canvas” and “Imaginarium” exist in the same Social Hub space Atmosphere.

“Endless Canvas” is an 11 m long wall in the amphitheater of the conference hall, hence the complex configuration of the surface. The entire composition is built around architecture, where iconic buildings of great modernist architects such as Eero Saarinen, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, Minoru Yamasaki, Frank Lloyd Wright stand side by side with gothic and medieval masterpieces – the Milan Cathedral, Leaning Tower of Pisa and Juliet’s Balcony.

This is a graphic novel in the aesthetics of b/w photography and graffiti, the characters of which are images from engravings by Durer, Rembrandt, Holbein and our own drawings.

Explication of images:

– street musician; a drummer; girls at the fashionable “Ball chair” Eero Aarnio; thoughtful girl; graffiti

– a girl and a man; scene at a train station in the aesthetics of a retro film; Eero Saarinen building; a man carrying a heart-shaped load; a passerby looking at a girl

– “Rhinoceros” by Durer, mariachi musician with a girl; a passersby; a girl with a dog and a couple of men talking

– a man raising a suitcase; a group of musicians and listeners; engraving by Hans Holbein the Younger and Utagawa Kuniyoshi’s character with an umbrella in the water; a passersby in the rain; eccentric musicians, two girls against the backdrop of the Eero Saarinen building and the Leaning Tower of Pisa; “Frank Lloyd Wright’s” Midjourney building; superhero genie and a grown-up Kiki, the heroine of Miyazaki’s film

– on the column: Rembrandt’s self-portrait; designer’s sketch seagulls

– a couple against the backdrop of modern architecture; above them is an homage to a satirical engraving of 1798; two girls; Gala, Dali’s muse; girls in retro clothes driving a sports car against the backdrop of the architecture of the Milan Cathedral and buildings of the Renaissance period;

– a girl sitting; “Salome” by Aubrey Beardsley

– engraving by Durer; “Owl on a Magnolia Branch” from a Japanese woodcut; “Lion” by Durer; nuns walking into the cathedral

– a pair from an engraving by Peter von Cornelius; “The Princess and the Pea” against the background of an engraving by Luigi Rossini; “Pillows” by Durer

– “Zeus and Juno” by Giulio Romano

– grotesque evolution “from dragon to fish” against the backdrop of Renaissance architecture; couple in a cabriolet

Clouds are everywhere in the regulated tradition of engraving, compiled images of pop culture, such as graffiti with a monkey; images created by AI based on the author’s graphics and modernist architecture.

“Imaginarium” is the entrance to the Social Hub Atmosphere, that was formed from allusions to the word “Atmosphere”, hence the theme of aeronautics that unites the images: balloons, aerialists, tightrope walker Miss Stena, depicted on 19th-century posters from the Museum of the History of Paris, movement, dynamics and speed.

The second theme is the performance: a bright theater curtain or a circus tent canopy, a magician’s cylinder, deliberately nostalgic colors of faded but carefully preserved old cinema posters.

And the third theme is fairy tales and illusions: a white rabbit, a rooster from «Die Bremer Stadtmusikanten», the Tin Woodman (aka the robot from Laputa), a golden lion, an atmosphere full of mystery. Like in Terry Gilliam’s film about an attraction where everyone having passed through the magic mirror could find themselves in the world of their fantasies.

Images we used in our work: posters from the 19th century, images of Japanese graphic artists and animators from the 50s, 60s, and 70s, none of which were directly quoted or repeated; films of Guilliam and Miyazake, Carroll’s fairy tales, Alexander Blok’s poem and much more.

The colorful entrance is enticing; black and white wall tells a story without distracting from the architectural form.

Graphic artist Andrey Naumov is responsible for modern faces on the historical stage, art director Elena Ivanova is responsible for the general concept and individual characters, Vitaly Yakobinets is responsible for assembly, detailing and compilation, as well as all production and AI programs. Project architect Arseniy Borisenko.
